The Fekety lectureship was established in 1992 to recognize Dr. Robert Fekety's 25 years at the University of Michigan and his continued commitment to excellence in education, research, and patient care. Dr. Fekety, founder of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Michigan, is noted as being one of the most outstanding teachers at the University of Michigan Medical School. He is also one of the discoverers of clostridium difficile colitis and key investigators in diagnostic methods, clinical microbiology, epidemiology and treatment options for the disease.
